Who We Are
Retirement Income Strategies, Inc., a state of Florida regulated Registered Investment Advisor, is a full service Financial Advisor operating in a Fiduciary capacity where placing client’s interests first is our primary guiding principle.
Since 1982, our Founder, Alan P. Neese, has provided advice and financial services to individuals, companies and not-for-profit institutions. Over the years, these services have covered the spectrum from banking, insurance, estate/legacy planning, business continuation planning, retirement income planning, as well as investment portfolio management. Though the planning focus has changed from time to time and client to client, the foundational commitment to always put client needs first has never wavered. One of many reasons we choose to serve clients in a Fiduciary capacity.
The Value of Independence
We have chosen to be independent and not affiliate with a large bank or brokerage firm so that we are always able to put the best interests of our clients first. We only recommend strategies, services and solutions to help meet our clients’ needs – not the needs of an investment company or third-party service provider. We have the freedom to use a broad universe of planning and investment solutions without constraints which could result from a proprietary relationship with a product manufacturer, broker/dealer or corporate owner. We maintain relationships with leading legal and tax professionals, thus allowing us to bring capabilities greater than our own to help meet the needs of our clients.
What We Do
With our first priority of helping clients achieve their stated life goals, our process begins with in-depth discussions about what one desires to achieve and when. Often clients tell us of a target age and income goal for retirement. Others may be focused on funding a charitable legacy or financially endowing future generations. Some of our clients have retired from their first career at an early age and seek a strategy to start a second career “on their own terms.” Some just want more income on a consistent and predictable basis. Whatever your specific goals may be, together we will discuss them in depth and determine the strategies that may help achieve those specific goals.
Only after fully understanding your significant life goals do we move forward with an inventory and analysis of your current assets, sources of income and legal documents. When the assets and planning you currently have in place effectively serve your overall financial goals, we may recommend those be retained. When assets or planning may not effectively serve your overall planning objectives, we will discuss in great detail why other options may be worth consideration.
We feel it is important for you to be completely comfortable with any recommendations that are made from plan inception throughout our work together. After all, this is your life plan and your goals – we merely bring our knowledge, experience and passion into the process of helping you achieve your significant life goals.
Why We Do It
Our Founder, Alan P. Neese, began his career as a banker, in Las Vegas of all places! For years he worked with rich and poor alike and observed that often those who had achieved financial success had done so because of proper planning and good advice. He desired to be the one astutely dispensing sound advice to help people from all walks of life.
He undertook studies in many areas of financial planning, and ultimately left banking to become a licensed Financial Advisor in Florida. Troubled by what he perceived to be conflicts of interest, he left corporate employment to become an independent advisor who would always be able to provide conflict-free advice for the benefit of his clients. For over thirty years as an independent Financial Advisor, he has been able to provide clients with advice that first and foremost addresses their unique and individual needs. He is widely viewed by his clients as the calm, steady and trustworthy voice in their financial lives.

Having a clear focus on the life goals you want to achieve will inform our entire planning process. Through in-depth, on-going, thought provoking discussions we come to thoroughly understand what you want to achieve and when you’d like to do so. Only when we help you achieve your important life goals will we count our contribution a success.

Knowing that it is impossible to predict and control investment market outcomes, we focus on things we can control such as investment selection, asset allocation, low cost structures and tax efficiency.
Focus Always on Meaningful Communication
Because our planning process is built around the achievement of your significant life goals, our communication with you isn’t centered upon the ups and downs of investment markets. Rather, we focus communication primarily upon the progress being made toward the achievement of your stated life goals. Without a firm conviction in our time tested investment philosophy, media noise, Wall Street hype and the endless prognostications of self-described “experts” could distract from the primary focus of achieving your important life goals. Together we will cut through the noise and distractions to focus primarily on the process and progress of achieving your stated life goals.
Our Advice
Retirement Planning first involves establishing measurable goals that will inform the entire planning process. Once goals are established, appropriate investments are chosen based on your comfort level with risk, along with your specific time horizon. We then collaboratively establish monthly income distribution goals as needed within specified time periods. And throughout the process we maintain meaningful communication about the progress being made in the achievement of your goals.
Investment Planning should begin with your specific goals in focus – what do you want to accomplish and when? Together we’ll discuss these questions: What resources are available to apply toward meeting your goals? What time horizon will your plan encompass? What level of risk are you comfortable with in the pursuit of your goals? How often and in what format would you like to communicate about the progress toward your goals?
If you already have investments in place with or without a well defined strategy, we can review the investments with you at no cost or obligation. Often new clients come to us with an array of investments they’ve purchased over the years, but without a clear and concrete plan to achieve their goals. Together we can establish goals and a strategy that may better your chances of achieving success.
Income Distribution Planning Whether you’ve already entered retirement, “The Next Phase,” as we like to call it, or are approaching retirement, we are happy to assist you in developing a strategy to draw upon resources in the most prudent and tax-efficient manner possible. We are able to run various computer simulations to determine the approach that may give you the best chance of financially sustaining your lifestyle throughout your entire life. We couple this planning with a review of all options available under Social Security to help you maximize your income opportunities.
Estate / Legacy Planning at its core is an act of love, consideration and kindness to provide benefit for one’s family and/or organizations one cares deeply about. It is certainly more than just trying to reduce taxation to heirs. A well thought out plan should address issues related to future distribution of assets, their management and administration, as well as ownership structures today and in the future. Working in careful coordination with your attorney, CPA and other trusted advisors, we can help design a plan that will accomplish your important objectives as smoothly and cost effectively as possible.
